Post-Move Decorating Tips for Residential Relocations
A residential relocation is an opportunity to rethink your decorating style and change up the look and feel of your home. For many, however, the problem is knowing where to start. If you haven’t done a remodel or any sort of redecorating before, it can be overwhelming.
Never fear, here are some decorating tips to help you figure out the right direction to take.
Hide Unsightly Floors
Your floor is the base for your home. As such, it serves as the foundation for your decor style. Use your floor as inspiration for the rest of your setting. If your floor is ugly (think linoleum, cheap tile or off-color carpet), consider covering it up with a large area rug. These are easily swapped out and add a stylish touch even to rooms where you can’t change the floors at all. It’s also much cheaper to hide unsightly floors than replace them.
New Isn’t Always Best
Speaking of replacing, don’t be afraid to buy used when it comes to your post-move decor. Add a pop of color or interest and create an engaging focal point in a space by putting a thrift store find where all can see. Certain used items are perfectly usable as-is and add a bit of charm and personality to a space. Or, you can find items that can be easily refurbished or given a facelift with a new coat of paint or some elbow grease. Many of the best home decorators will also tell you that you can find priceless pieces for free as well. Look on social media marketplaces, keep an eye out for neighbors giving away furniture and visit several thrift stores. You’re sure to find a used item that is more affordable than new, but makes just as big of an impact.
Wallpaper Is In Again
It’s funny how trends come and go, isn’t it? Wallpaper was in every home several decades ago, then it suddenly was off limits in the world of home decor. It’s making a comeback again due to its convenience and the fact wallpaper technology has improved. It’s no longer so difficult to remove, as many wallpaper designs today easily peel off once you’re done with them. Modern designs are bold and beautiful… and you don’t have to worry about all of the time and effort that would be spent painting instead. Wallpaper is in again… embrace it!
